The Iranian national team experienced one of the most dramatic eliminations of this World Cup, falling out of the knockout stage after a series of incredible developments within just 24 hours.
In the match against Egypt, the Iranians thought they had secured qualification after finding the back of the net in the dying seconds of the match. However, after the intervention of the VAR system, the goal was disallowed, causing Iran to finish the group in third place.

When Algeria scored in the 93rd minute, Iranian fans erupted in celebration, believing qualification had been secured. However, just three minutes later, in the 96th minute, Austria equalized, definitively ending Iran's dream of continuing their World Cup adventure.
In the end, Iran was eliminated without suffering a single defeat in the group stage, an extremely bitter end for a team that was very close to qualifying but was punished by an unlucky combination of results at crucial moments.
