The first half of the Latvia-Albania match, valid for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, ends. The Reds have defeated the hosts with the minimum score of 0-1. Latvia had the opportunity to take the lead in the 21st minute, but Ikaunieks was inaccurate from the penalty spot, as his shot was saved by Tomas Strakosha.
In the 18th minute, Latvia won a penalty. After a quick counterattack by the home team, Gutkovskis was brought down in the penalty area after a contact with Kumbulla and the referee signaled from the penalty spot.
3 minutes later, Strakosha saved Ikaunieks' shot.
Albania found the only goal of this first half in the 29th minute. After a cross from Hoxha from the left, the ball went towards Manaj, it was deflected by the striker, but then it was Chernomordijs who sent the ball into his own goal.
When it was thought that the match would end with Albania's victory, Latvia equalized in the 45th + 4th minute. After a quick corner kick, Chernomordijs headed past Strakosha.
It remains to be seen how the second 45 minutes will go, but the boys led by Silvinjo will seek victory at all costs to keep alive the dream of qualifying for the first time in a World Cup.
