The Albanian Football Federation has been trying for years to convince talented striker Nelson Weiper to represent Albania on the international stage. The player, who plays for Mainz, has stood out in recent seasons both at club level and with the German youth teams, where he has shown consistency in his achievements.
Currently part of the Germany U-21 team, Weiper was activated in the European Championship qualifier against Northern Ireland. In the same match, Brian Gruda also appeared, starting the challenge and being substituted at half-time. Meanwhile, Weiper was brought on in the 85th minute.
Despite the limited minutes available, the striker made his mark immediately. He used a cross from inside the box to find the right space and score the goal that sealed Germany's 3-0 victory. The reaction from the fans in the stadium was immediate, with a chorus of chants of his name.
The AFF's interest in Weiper remains unchanged, while it remains to be seen whether the player will consider a change of representation at the international level in the future.
