The road to the 2026 World Cup has taken a creative turn as some of football's biggest icons have been transformed into LEGO figures. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo lead a star-studded cast that also includes Real Madrid duo Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior in a new advert that is set to attract widespread online attention.
LEGO has formalized its collaboration with four of the biggest names in world football, turning them into minifigures for the new “Editions” collection. This project follows the previous success of the LEGO World Cup trophy and shifts the focus from trophies to the individuals who define the game. The sets aim to promote the creative culture of football and give fans the opportunity to interact with their idols through technical constructions and decorative objects.
In the promotional ad, four footballers compete to build a LEGO World Cup trophy, until a young boy steps in and completes the model, placing his personalized figurine on top. Messi and Ronaldo, often considered rivals for the title of the greatest of all time, have previously appeared together in a popular Louis Vuitton campaign.
The collection includes collectible sets that reflect the journey, style and hidden elements for fans. The models range from “Football Highlights” builds to larger “Football Legend” sets for Ronaldo and Messi. Ronaldo’s set includes an “R”-shaped base in Portugal’s colors and elements depicting his career, along with a minifigure and collector’s plaque. Meanwhile, Messi’s set recreates special moments from his career on an “M”-shaped base in Argentina’s colors and the number 10.
Vinicius Junior's kit reflects Brazilian energy with a "V"-shaped base and national colors, while Mbappe's combines speed and French style in an elegant structure with the number 10.
As the 2026 World Cup approaches, these four players remain in the global spotlight. Messi continues to play for Inter Miami in MLS, Ronaldo is active with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, while Mbappe and Vinicius Junior are aiming for trophies with Real Madrid in La Liga and the Champions League. In a few months, they will be representing their national teams in the competition for the most important trophy in football.
