Today he is 33 years old and has played for some of the most famous clubs in Europe, but Granit Xhaka does not forget where he comes from. In a recent interview for the official website of the Premier League, the Sunderland and Switzerland captain was moved to tears as he recounted the hardships of childhood and the sacrifice of his parents in the suburbs.

"We never forget where we come from. I've had leadership since I was 4 years old. My parents worked all day. They worked extra to give us what we wanted. My brother is a year older than me, he was 5, I was 4. But I held the key to the house, I was responsible for the keys from that time."

There were periods when we would stay at home alone for up to 18 hours. And I always say that I can't imagine leaving my children alone for 18 hours. My mother worked from 4 in the morning until 3 in the afternoon. She would come, prepare the next meal and go back to work. My father did the same. We never forget where we come from. If you believe in something and work hard, you can achieve it", said Xhaka, tearfully.

Granit has made 26 appearances for Sunderland in the Premier League this season, scoring one goal and providing five assists. He is captain of the Swiss national team and has made 143 appearances, scoring 16 goals for the Swiss national team.
