
The football world is in mourning. Frank Mill, the former German striker who won the 1990 World Cup with Germany in Italy, has died at the age of 67.
The former striker died in Essen and, according to initial reports, he had never recovered from the stroke he suffered last May. In addition to the World Cup, he also won the Olympic bronze medal in 1988.
The former Borussia Dortmund and Fortuna Düsseldorf striker died of a heart attack. He had previously suffered a similar illness at the end of May, after arriving at Malpensa airport for a documentary on "Italia 90".
In that case, rescue teams, who arrived by helicopter, managed to revive him after several minutes of being unconscious. He had recently been treated in Essen, Bild reports. Mill is survived by his wife, Vanessa, and two children, one of whom is adopted.

Mill played 387 Bundesliga games, scoring 123 goals and making 17 appearances for West Germany. After starting his career in his hometown of Essen in 1981, he spent five years at Borussia Mönchengladbach (1981–1986).
He then played for Borussia Dortmund until 1994, before finishing his career with his final two seasons at Fortuna Düsseldorf. He then won the German Cup with Dortmund in 1989.
Frank Mill's death was announced by his former club, Rot-Weiss Essen. Essen board member Alexander Rang remembered Mill thus: " Frank was not only one of the greatest players that Rot-Weiss Essen has ever produced, but he was also a good person: pragmatic, authentic and full of positive energy ."
