Stiven Shpendi has started to become a protagonist in this edition of Serie B with the Empoli jersey. The Albanian striker is scoring regularly, standing out just as much as his brother Kristian, who was one of the most recognizable names of the previous edition.
In an interview with "Radio Lady", the striker who scored against Venice in the final week of the championship, revealed how he is experiencing this new season, the long-distance challenge with his brother and some special superstitions before matches.
" Venice is undoubtedly one of the teams best prepared to win the championship. It was a very difficult match, also because we had little time to prepare under the new coach. But we put in a good performance on the pitch and this draw was very important. I am very happy to have helped the team with my goal. I am a little disappointed for the first chance I had in the first minute, because it would have been easier to score, but I am happy to have equalized the result.
Now I play as a striker and I always try to believe in every ball, even in rebounds. A strong striker must always believe. I am ready to take advantage of every mistake of the defender or free ball, because that is where the goals are scored. For a striker, scoring is important. Of course, working for the team comes first, but goals help in winning and make the difference. Statistics matter, and a striker lives for that. What do I feel after a goal? Just joy. I celebrate how I feel, without thinking about it. I don't have a specific celebration, but maybe I should study one , "said Shpendi initially.
Then, he also focused on his relationship with his brother, Kristian, and his desire to wear the red and black jersey like him.
" It's a personal goal of mine, a dream. My brother has already been called up and played a friendly with the senior national team. I would really like to follow in his footsteps."
I have a very strong bond with my family. We talk every day and whenever they can, they come to visit me. They give me a lot of strength, both to me and to my brother. With Kristian we really support each other. There is no jealousy, just the desire to see each other go further and further. When they said that one was stronger than the other, it encouraged us to give more. We have always pushed each other to improve.
Is it true that I got him into football when we were kids? Yes! My dad always talks about it. I always wanted to go on the field, but he didn't. In the end, we convinced him and now here we are, both footballers.
"This season I would like to reach double figures. That is my goal as a striker. And then we will see the 'challenge' with my brother: he takes penalties, but I don't count them," emphasized the striker, who then revealed a secret about how he prepares for the match.
"Superstitious ritual before the match? One, yes, but I never tell anyone! But I always listen to music from Northern Albania, my father's music. It gets me very excited before I enter the field ," the Albanian striker said.
