The Arab football championship has entered the decisive phase, with the title race still wide open with just six weeks to go. Currently, Cristiano Ronaldo's Al Nassr sit at the top of the table, two points ahead of Al Hilal, but with one game in hand.
Until a few days ago, second place was held by Al Ahli, but a draw against Al Fayha caused the team to lose a position in the standings.
After the match, Al Ahli players reacted strongly to the refereeing, claiming that the referee's decisions directly influenced the result. According to them, a clear handball was not signaled, denying the team a golden opportunity.
Galeno, a former Porto player, was among the most vocal in his reactions. He cast doubt on the integrity of the competition, suggesting that the title could be predetermined.
" They can give him the cup, that's what they want. They want to take us out of the title race in any way, they want to give it to one person. It's a lack of respect for our club ," Galeno wrote on the social network X.
Tonej also reacted in the same vein, publishing a message on Instagram Story, which he later deleted.
" We already know. Who are we chasing for first place? Who benefits? It's clear. I don't know what else we can do. If he touches the ball with both hands, is a penalty awarded? When we tried to talk to the referee, he told us to focus on the Asian Champions League. How can a referee say something like that? I say he was filming everything, I hope we hear it. Who knows, maybe I'll delete it ...", he wrote.
The dissatisfaction was not limited to the players. The Al Ahli club itself also released an official statement, harshly criticizing the refereeing.
The statement notes that:
" The referee's decisions had a direct impact on the development of the match and the final result, also influencing the team's positioning in the title race ."
The club also raised concerns about the way referees were selected:
“ Such errors raise legitimate doubts regarding the selection of arbitrators and the criteria applied .”
According to Al Ahli, the team has been constantly faced with unfair decisions:
" An unacceptable situation that neither favors the development of the competition nor protects the principle of competitive equality, which should be the basis of any successful tournament ."
As the championship enters its final weeks, these allegations add to the tension and cast doubt on the integrity of the title race. However, there has been no official reaction from the championship organizers or the refereeing bodies so far.
