Brighton have increased the pressure on Chelsea in the Premier League, after convincingly defeating them 3-0 in the match of week 34. The victory brings the locals closer to the Champions League zone, while the London team sees its chances of capturing this objective increasingly fading.
The match started at a high pace from Brighton, who took the lead in the 3rd minute with a goal from Ferdi Kadioglu, surprising Chelsea. The home team created other scoring opportunities, but goalkeeper Sanchez reacted at several crucial moments, keeping the difference minimal. The first half ended with the score 1-0.
The second half also started in Brighton's favour. In the 54th minute, Hinshelwood doubled the lead, making it 2-0 and further complicating the situation for Chelsea, who failed to react effectively.
In extra time, Danny Welbeck sealed the victory with the third goal, bringing the score to 3-0 and finally closing the match.
With this victory, Brighton climbs to 6th place with 50 points, surpassing Chelsea. Meanwhile, the Londoners record their fourth consecutive loss and remain on 48 points.
