Member of the Presidency of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Visar Azemi, has stated that the party aims to return all of its members, not excluding former president Vjosa Osmani.
During a press conference, Azemi was asked about the possibility of Osman's return to LDK. He said that concrete developments are expected in the coming days, but stressed that the party remains open to unification.
According to him, Vjosa Osmani may also have a place in LDK, adding that it is necessary for the right-wing spectrum to be unified after the processes that, according to him, have been damaged previously. He emphasized that the goal is to restore the unity that has historically characterized LDK.
"I believe that we will see these events in the coming days. The LDK aims to return all its members, so there may be a place for Vjosa Osmani in the LDK, because the right must unite, since there has been a process that has been damaged in previous processes and we are also aiming to unify the party as the LDK has always been ," he declared.
Osmani had previously announced a return to political activity and expressed ambitions for a second term as president. However, she did not receive the support of the Vetëvendosje Movement and currently does not hold an institutional position.
In discussions about electing the president, LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku has praised Osmani as an "excellent candidate."
The Kosovo Assembly has until April 28 to elect a president. If that doesn't happen, the country will go to elections within 45 days, in accordance with the Constitutional Court's ruling.
The Vetëvendosje Movement has proposed two names for the position of president, Glauk Konjufca and Fatmire Mulhaxha, but their candidacies were not put to a vote due to the lack of a quorum.
Vjosa Osmani was part of the LDK before taking the position of president in 2021. She then formed the Guxo List and ran in the elections in collaboration with the Vetëvendosje Movement, while her election as president was also made possible by the votes that secured the quorum in the Assembly.
