The opposition has submitted its demands to the Conference of Speakers, which have not been taken into account by the Socialists, while Agron Gjekmarkaj, the Democratic Deputy Speaker of Parliament, said that the opposition will address the Constitutional Court regarding the new regulation of the Assembly.
After the meeting of the Conference of Speakers, Gjekmarkaj said that he had requested a meeting of the Legislation Council, where the possibility of a motion for dismissal of the Speaker of the Assembly, Niko Peleshi, would be considered.
Gjekmarkaj said that the majority is undermining the democratic functioning of Parliament and is systematically excluding the opposition from decision-making processes.
According to Gjekmarkaj, the opposition has been placed under constant pressure through the dissolution of parliamentary committees, the reduction of space for debate, and sentences that he described as "absurd."
He also focused on the conduct of the second parliamentary session, where, according to him, the Prime Minister presented himself with a provocative stance, with the aim of avoiding debate and transparency, by not introducing the new ministers and not allowing discussions that would give citizens and the diplomatic corps a clearer picture of the government.
"In this context, I requested the repetition of the plenary session, the convening of the Legislation Committee to consider the possibility of a motion against Mr. Peleshi, as well as the cancellation of the unjust sentences against opposition MPs," Gjekmarkaj told reporters.
He warned that the opposition will address the Constitutional Court, while emphasizing that a decision has not yet been made to propose names for parliamentary committees. “We will use every space that Parliament provides to communicate the truth of Albania and to confront this arrogant majority that aims to corner the opposition,” Gjekmarkaj declared.
