The Special Prosecution Office has discovered that former spouses Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi have spent around 240 thousand dollars from a second bank card, which was made available to them by Albanian-American businessman Adrian Shatku.
Lawyer Edmond Petraj said that the part about using the card should be viewed carefully as in this process there may be authorization from the person, in this case from businessman Shatku, for its use.
He stressed that if this card was misused, then we are dealing with a violation and a criminal offense, but this circumstance must be fully clarified. According to the lawyer, the property investigation against the former Meta couple has been underway for a long time and letters of inquiry have been sent to many countries.
"This is a personal relationship between the person who has the card and the subject who used it. If this person has used the card illegally, it shows that we have an offense, but if we have authorization to use it, this must be looked at carefully. This card is a peripheral part of the process, while the letter-orders that he has requested in various countries if the couple has assets, are in the investigation phase and remain to be seen ," Petraj told Abcnews.
He also commented on the trial against former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, who, according to him, if his guilt is proven in court, then the leading democrat risks being sentenced to 8-10 years in prison.
He also appreciated the request for resignation from the process of Judge Elsa Ulliri, who has stated that she is the cousin of Democratic MP Andia Ulliri and their relationship can be considered a conflict of interest in the "Partizani" file.
" Judge Elsa Ulliri has resigned as a moral obligation, in order not to complicate the process. The decision of another judge is awaited, to decide on the situation for which she will accept the request to waive the process. I think that if found guilty, Berisha risks 8-10 years in prison ," he said.
He claimed that Meta is also expected to request an ordinary trial, just as the defendants did in the "Partizani" case.
According to Petraj, after this step, the real confrontation in court begins, as the former head of state will try to refute the evidence that the Prosecution has submitted to the Court.
"Meta will also enter a regular trial and we will have a confrontation about the evidence that SPAK has collected and we will have Meta's defense. We will have a confrontation. Meta is in the same position, except that he has an additional charge, which is that of concealing assets. Always if they find him guilty," he said.
