The leader of the Agrarian Environmentalist Party, Agron Duka, has stated that the civic protest should not stop without achieving a concrete result, warning that its failure would further strengthen the current political system.
Invited to the Euronews Albania news studio, Duka said that citizens and political parties should see this as a decisive moment.
"This protest must continue until there is a product. If the protest dies down, prepare to have this system you are opposing for the rest of your life. This is the chance and the moment to achieve something," he said.
Duka also criticized the opposition, saying that political parties, especially the Democratic Party and small forces, have become disconnected from citizens and need to return to the field to listen to their concerns.
"The DP and the small parties must reach out to the people. Otherwise, young people will tell us: 'Go away, you're not up for this job,'" said the PAA leader.
Asked whether the protests could force Prime Minister Edi Rama to resign, Duka said that currently the pressure is not sufficient, but did not rule out that the situation could change.
"I don't believe the pressure is too great right now, but perhaps in the future it will be conditioned for him to seriously consider this issue ," he stated.
The Duke also made a comparison with former Prime Minister Fatos Nano, saying that in a similar situation, the latter would have chosen to leave office.
"Mr. Nano would undoubtedly have resigned, because he is not tied to the chair. He was liberal, humane, worked in a group and listened to the voice of the group. I believe he would resign ," concluded the Duke.
