By attacking Elisa Spiropali as a "rusty spoon", Edi Rama seems to have accepted the very logic with which he built power: some refused to use the "spoon", while others continue to feed on it in silence...
During the three months following the dismissal of Elisa Spiropali from her position as Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister Edi Rama has attacked and threatened her several times for her critical stances towards the governance model that she considers autocratic, failed and corrupt.
At the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group meeting, Edi Rama declared that some party figures hold critical and opposing positions towards him, describing them as "rusty spoons" and "lost souls" of the great socialist family.
He didn't mention names.
But the most active and direct critic of Edi Rama within the SP dome continues to be Elisa Spiropali, a former minister in two mandates and former Speaker of the Parliament, who has recently taken public positions against the way power is exercised, addressing criticism directly to the prime minister and his inner circle.
A week after the first reactions, Edi Rama openly warned Elisa Spiropali of expulsion from the Parliamentary Group and, consequently, from the Socialist Party.
He then dismissed her from her position as political leader of the Tirana District, even though she had achieved high results in both the 2023 local elections and the 2025 parliamentary elections.
By describing himself as a "rusty spoon", Edi Rama seems to have confirmed the philosophy with which, according to his critics, he selects and appoints ministers, MPs, mayors and heads of institutions.
So, not on the basis of meritocracy, but as people who enter the "pan" of power with a "spoon in their belt", according to a tacit agreement to serve the leader and benefit from power.
In addition to personal attacks, Edi Rama has pitted ministers, former ministers, MPs, patrons, directors, mayors and leaders of branches of the Socialist Party against Elisa Spiropali.
The fact that he called her a "rusty spoon", according to this interpretation, means that Elisa Spiropali either could not use the "spoon" that was given to her as a minister, MP and Speaker of the Parliament, or refused to use it.
However, throughout all these years she was one of Edi Rama's most active defenders in confrontations with the opposition, to the point of publicly calling him "Skënderbe".
If Spiropali had really used the "spoon" of power, he would hardly dare to come out today against Edi Rama and his close circle, even with direct accusations of creating a system of power based on ministers, MPs, mayors, oligarchs, traffickers and people from the underworld.
Many of the "golden spoons" have acted differently.
Ministers, MPs, mayors and directors who, even after being dismissed or arrested for signing government decisions, have not dared to say a single word against Edi Rama.
Among them are names such as Ilir Beqja, Lefter Koka, Alqi Bllako and others.
Even those who continue to use the "golden spoons" given to them by Edi Rama are silent.
Some of them even continue to feed on the "pan" of power, oligarchs, concessionaires, and traffickers.
This category, according to the author, includes Mirela Kumbaro, Eduard Shalsi, Olta Xhaçka, Bledi Çuçi, Blendi Klosi, Niko Peleshi, Ogerta Manastirliu, Anila Denaj, Pirro Vengu, Milva Ekonomi and others.
