How did Alimehmeti feel about ending up in the 'competition' with

Everyone is calling him the moral winner of the May 11 elections! Many are reading beyond the votes, the message that the Democrats gave through him, and others are raising expectations for him, in relation to what should and will happen with the DP and Sali Berisha, at a time when only God can remove the latter.

He was among the most voted in the DP and had to compete with his colleague within the DP, who also received the same number of votes and was left in the danger zone like him, contrary to what the primaries dictated. Clearly because Berisha himself did not consider them his own.

We are talking about Ilir Alimehmet, the candidate who is most likely very upset about not entering Parliament, because the massive vote of the citizens of Tirana covered his defeat. He comes tonight in an interview on "Të Pashog"

– How was the competition with Jorida Tabaku?

I had no competition with Tabaku, my competition was with the Socialist Party.

– That's where it ended...

It may seem that way to you, but for me it was always with the SP. How others see it, I can't speak. I ran against the SP.

– This is the misfortune, that you ended up in a competition with Tabaku...

Let me tell you, for those who may not have understood: I am not emotional, I neither get hot nor cold easily. I have my own goals.

The first objective was to get twice the votes of another candidate – and I achieved that. The next objective was to reach the votes of the DP's candidate for prime minister in 2021, who received 16 thousand votes. I received over 18 thousand.

I have personal objectives and I achieved them with a simple, clear, civic, "low cost" campaign. To show that this work can be done. There is no need for numbers, no need for major teams, consultants, big media or oligarchs.

– But it has to be done with the right people...

I have a duty to lead by example. Someone didn't believe this could be done. On March 12, the National Council held very heated discussions. They were open. Mr. Murrizi had a very strong debate – he was also very open.

What was said on March 12 is transparent. But someone did not believe that what was said would become a reality on May 11. Now it has been seen that it is being done. Next time, when we are convinced, we have the data there. That is why we need figures and we need to show the way how this work is done.

At the same time, the responsibility for those who took on the respective responsibilities must be clear. I am a member of the National Council, not of the Presidency. I speak as a member of the Council and I say that there are avenues that were not explored.

It can't be done today. It may be true for Tirana, but it may not be so for other regions.
