With less than 8,000 envelopes from the diaspora to count, Blerina Gjylameti, a candidate for deputy of the Socialist Party in the Tirana District, has officially addressed the Central Election Commission with a request.
She is requesting video footage of the vote counting process throughout the Tirana District, raising allegations of a lack of transparency in the process.
In a letter to the head of the CEC, Ilirjan Celibashi, Gjylameti requests full access to the video recordings of each counting table. She emphasizes that the footage will be used “only for verification purposes” and that all applicable legal procedures will be respected.
This move comes at a delicate moment: Gjylameti is only about 100 votes behind Olta Xhaçka – the former Minister of Defense – and at this stage, is not included in the list of SP winners in Tirana. It seems clear that the game is not over yet, at least for Gjylameti, who refuses to leave the stage without fighting to the end.
While awaiting the CEC's response and the counting of envelopes from the diaspora, it remains to be seen whether this "verification" will serve to reverse the result, or will cover up a silent crisis within the ranks of the Socialist Party.
"Dear Mr. Celibashi! I, the applicant, in my capacity as a candidate for deputy in the Tirana District electoral zone for the parliamentary elections of 11.05.2025, address you with this request to make available to me the video footage of the vote counting process of the subjects and candidates in all counting centers of the Tirana District.
"The requested footage will be used only for verification purposes and within the legal framework, respecting all procedures required by the applicable legal framework ," Gjylameti writes in her request.
