The protests that have been taking place in the country for days were also part of the debate in this Thursday's plenary session, where there were no shortage of clashes between majority and opposition MPs.
Democratic Party MP Ina Zhupa said that the Parliament cannot remain detached from the demands of citizens who are protesting, demanding the removal of Prime Minister Edi Rama and the establishment of a transitional government.
"This Assembly cannot be separated from the reality of the citizens in the square. You have a draft law to abolish protected areas that came before the protest. This is one of the protesters' demands. You left it without a date. Reality requires the resignation of Edi Rama and a transitional government," said Zhupa.
Her statement was responded to by the Minister for Parliamentary Relations, Taulant Balla, who mocked the speech of the Democratic MP and defended the government's projects. Balla mocked Zhupa's speech as "a flamingo speech by Temu", while accusing the opposition of contradictory positions regarding investments.
"This was definitely a flamingo speech from Temu. I also really like that for several days you owls have been looking like flamingos, although with the greatest respect, who commanded you, who authorized you... make as much noise as you want. Go and protest if you want, as for the four laws we are against. We are against and we will overthrow them because we were voted to develop Albania. A week ago you came out with your chief executive, the great Owl, and said that you are pro-investment. Now what is the purpose of the 4 draft laws? We are pro-investment, the investment will be made. Albania does not have the luxury of losing 4 billion.
Why are you being so ridiculous? The lady who just spoke just quoted the text of the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, which came out openly yesterday… because you also seem to me like the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry. What are you looking for in a protest? I understand that guy there, because that is their job. I saw a deputy who said: “We are protesting against the system”. Which system? A protest that Sali Berisha calls in prison. We know very well that we have a contract with Albanian citizens. The lady came out and said: “We are for the integration package”, it was voted on. You are not paying attention to the lesson. We are here, we will continue our duty. We have no hours to waste. So far, as far as I know, you have not voted on any law related to the integration package. So come and vote, or don't, it doesn't matter.
"For the four draft laws you brought, you said you would bring a request for procedure. All four of your draft laws will be defeated and the project in Zvërnec will continue and Albania will move forward in the EU," said Balla.
