A post on social media by the Minister of Interior, which promoted the trend of recruiting retired military personnel into the ranks of the public security corporation "Ilyrian Guard", has made an impression.

Left in oblivion for a long time, this company, without much fanfare, is today one of the most important organizations that has armed personnel, engaged in guarding almost the most important buildings in the state.
"Ilyrian Guard" functions, not as a branch of the Ministry of Interior directly, as it is a public joint-stock company, with the rights of any private economic entity. The only difference is that the main shareholder, the owner, is the state, namely the Minister of Interior. Who has appointed a former deputy of the Socialist Party as Administrator of this organization.
Lamallari, in one of his posts, has promoted the work of the administrator of the "Ilyrian Guard" in employing retired military and police officers in this company. "Experienced professionals from the State Police and the Armed Forces join the "Illyrian Guard", a force that grows every day with dedicated people and high standards. "Illyrian Guard" is open to professionals who want to make a difference, who believe in discipline, integrity and service with dignity", writes Besfort Lamallari in his post on social networks.
Where a video is published, in which the administrator of the "Ilyrian Guard", Florenc Spaho, the former SP MP for the Elbasan district, receives in his office several former soldiers, who happily talk about their recruitment into this security structure.
A structure that has 3 senior officials from the Ministry of Interior on its supervisory council, the minister's chief of staff, the minister's advisor, and a senior director of the ministry.
In a country where government control is out of the spotlight and where transparency with the public is at its lowest levels, suspicions give way to speculation.
Since we are dealing with a large organization under the control of the executive, which has a monopoly on appointments, both in the police and in the company controlled by the Ministry of Interior.
These developments have increased suspicion among international partners, mainly organizations that monitor law enforcement agencies.
In fact, in a report sent to Brussels, it is learned that this zeal to recruit retired military and police officers, linked to the ruling majority, is also considered a risk for the creation of a political paramilitary "militia".
A militia, which is not new in Albania, as it was highly contested during the government of Sali Berisha, who licensed several security companies, employing a number of his supporters. As time has shown, they functioned as an armed paramilitary militia, which was used in many dramatic events and developments.
The new recruitment campaign in the "Ilyrian Guard" is also being considered on this wavelength, which, according to those who know this sector, predicts dramatic developments.
"An armed organization without parliamentary and civilian control not only increases suspicions, but also raises concerns about extra-legal action," states a report sent to the European Union offices.
