At the end of his speech during the event on urban infrastructure, Prime Minister Edi Rama conveyed a critical message to several mayors, who, according to him, are not standing by the communities they lead.
Without mentioning specific names, Rama said that he has received concerns from citizens about local leaders who leave their municipalities during the week to stay in Tirana, even on days when they should be on duty.
The head of government demanded that this practice end, warning that if the situation continues, in the future he may also make public the names of mayors against whom complaints have been filed.
The Prime Minister said that the complaints have come mainly from municipalities in the south and southeast of the country, especially along the Tirana-Korça axis.
He added that leaving office before official holidays is not acceptable and asked local leaders to address this concern raised by the communities they represent as soon as possible.
"With a remark about some of the mayors, I do not want to mention them here by name, who have become a bit of a problem, I am saying this in a gentle way, for the community, since they do not stay in the community throughout the week, but come to Tirana even on the days when they should be on duty there. It is very important that this practice ends. It is not all of them, it is some. Next time I will have to mention them by name and publicly. They leave the community and their duty before the official moment of leave comes, which is where this matter is discussed, and they come to Tirana. This is not justifiable and acceptable. I believe that I have all your understanding to address an hour ago this concern that came to me from some of your communities, mainly in the south and southeast of the country, on the Tirana-Korça axis, mainly. I am not talking about those from the former DP who can stay at home all the time because how they are, how they are not, they are still there. I do not have it for Sotiraq, "not even for the minister," Rama said.
