The Prime Minister said that cities will be cleared of defunct overhead cables, while municipalities will be involved in the transition to underground infrastructure.
Prime Minister Edi Rama participated this Wednesday in an event dedicated to underground infrastructure in urban areas, where the arrangement of overhead cables and improvised structures that have affected the appearance of cities was discussed.
The focus of the activity was the gradual transition of these networks towards underground infrastructure, as well as the role of municipalities in this process.
Rama said that the conditions now exist to start cleaning cities from overhead cables, a large part of which, according to him, are no longer functional.
"It is now possible to free our cities from those plastic spider webs of a time that had its consequences in the wake of a development that was necessary. As the inventory shows, some of these cables are out of service as a sign of forgetfulness and lack of attention."
I would like to take this opportunity to share another very large-scale initiative of a tragic nature for communities, which we will launch at a local government conference in the first 10 days of July.
It is about the new national program of urban renaissance 2.0. A program that is being prepared by the institutions and in dialogue with the municipalities under the auspices of Minister Demo. It is a program that aims to address several elements that the time has come to take an exhaustive direction.
To address the remaining uninvested parts of the system which, contrary to what is thrown around in the daily negative discourse, are in fact less than the invested parts of the water supply and sewage system.
"The program will address the need for a comprehensive intervention and to respond to the remaining unaddressed needs of the still missing segments of the water supply and sewage network," he said, among other things.
The Prime Minister announced that in the first ten days of July, a new national program will be presented, called "Urban Renaissance 2.0", which will focus on interventions in the water supply and sewage system.
According to Rama, the program is being prepared by institutions in cooperation with municipalities and aims to address segments of the network that have not yet been invested in, as well as the remaining needs in the basic infrastructure of communities.
