President Bajram Begaj received in his office his Lithuanian counterpart, Gitanas Nauseda, who is paying an official visit to Tirana. The meeting focused on support for Kosovo and Albania's path towards the European Union.
In the joint statement to the media, President Begaj thanked Lithuania for the continued support it has given to Albania in the European integration process, describing it as an important partner in this crucial phase of negotiations with the European Union.
"Albania and Lithuania enjoy very good relations, based on mutual trust, mutual respect and Euro-Atlantic values. Today we reaffirmed our commitment to further strengthening political dialogue and expanding our cooperation in areas of mutual interest," said Begaj.
The President stressed that Albania is at an important stage of the accession process and that it will continue to implement the necessary reforms to achieve the strategic objective of full membership in the EU. He also expressed his belief that the enlargement policy will remain a priority during the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2027.
"I expressed my gratitude for the continuous and unwavering support that Lithuania has given to Albania on its path towards membership in the European Union. We appreciate Lithuania's support at such an important moment in our integration process. We are convinced that even during the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2027, enlargement will remain an important priority on the European agenda. Albania will resolutely continue the necessary reforms to advance towards full membership in the European Union", said Begaj.

An important part of the talks was dedicated to developments in the Western Balkans and Kosovo's Euro-Atlantic perspective. In this context, President Begaj requested that Lithuania continue its support for Kosovo in international organizations and integration processes.
"In this context, I reiterated the importance of Kosovo's Euro-Atlantic integration. I thanked my friend, President Nauseda, for the support that Lithuania has given to Kosovo and its contribution with troops to KFOR, the vote in favor of its membership in the Council of Europe, and I asked him to continue this support in the future," he stated.

The meeting also discussed expanding economic cooperation between the two countries. President Begaj underlined that there are significant opportunities for investments and joint projects in the sectors of technology, digitalization, energy, tourism, agriculture and innovation.
He also highlighted the increase in the number of Lithuanian tourists choosing Albania as a tourist destination, considering this an indicator of the strengthening of relations between the two countries.
As NATO member states, Albania and Lithuania share common positions on security issues. Begaj praised Lithuania's contribution to the defense of the Alliance's eastern flank and reiterated Albania's support for Ukraine.
"Albania remains steadfast in its support for Ukraine, its sovereignty and independence. We believe that a secure and stable Europe requires a united response to any threat to democratic values," the President said.
