Democratic Party MP, Jorida Tabaku, reacted this Wednesday after Prime Minister Edi Rama's statement on the repeal of the Law on Strategic Investments, emphasizing that opposing this act has been an early position of the opposition.

According to Tabaku, from the moment the law was proposed, Democrats considered it unconstitutional and a violation of private property rights. She added that developments in recent years have confirmed the concerns raised by the opposition.

"Today, the Strategic Investment Law, in addition to its corrupt and abusive aspect, in addition to the distribution of favors without competition, creates social conflicts also on the issue of property. In the past 10 years, this law has been postponed several times and in each case we have requested its suspension. Even in 2025, when it was postponed for the last time, we requested its repeal," she said.

The Democratic MP argued that most of the decisions taken under this law have favored tourism projects, mainly in the south of the country, leading to clashes with owners and numerous public debates.

"The law has ended up granting permits for tourist resorts in the south of the country, creating conflicts with the legal and legitimate owners. It is a law that has favored the minority and today has become one of the reasons for the protest of thousands of citizens," Tabaku added.

Her reaction comes a day after Prime Minister Edi Rama, during a press conference with journalists from European Union countries, announced that the government will withdraw the Law on Strategic Investments.

According to Rama, the law has already fulfilled the mission for which it was adopted and no longer has the same importance as before. He assessed that it has encouraged strategic investments in the country and announced that work is being done with the European Union to draft a new legal framework, aligned with European standards.
