Minister, leave the "digital farmer". Go and give an account to the Parliament for the troubles of farmers
As farmers face market problems, while MPs await answers on issues related to food safety, chemical fertilizers, and veterinary control, Agriculture Minister Andis Salla is turning into one of the government's most invisible figures in Parliament.
The criticisms are no longer coming from the opposition, but from the majority itself, where Socialist MP Erion Braçe has repeatedly raised concerns that the minister is avoiding parliamentary accountability.
In just a few weeks, Braçe has denounced the minister's absence from interpellations, failure to respond to official requests for information, and lack of response to problems raised by farmers.
Today, from the Parliament podium, the socialist MP raised the issue again, stating that he is unable to get any answers to a problem that, according to him, directly affects agricultural production.
" I am looking for the Minister of Agriculture a lot, but I can't find him. What is the concern? Last Monday, I and some farmers sent an official letter from the Parliament to the AKU directorate, bringing to attention the fact that for months urea has been sold on the market with a nitrogen percentage much lower than the allowed one. It is an essential fertilizer for cereals. I have not received any reaction from the Ministry of Agriculture ," said Braçe.
This is not the first time that the Socialist MP has clashed publicly with the minister. On May 14, he had requested an interpellation regarding the treatment of abandoned animals, but the Minister of Agriculture did not appear in the Assembly hall. In his place was the Minister of Local Government, Ervin Demo.
Braça's reaction was harsh: " It is a profound lack of respect for the Assembly. A lack of respect that does not hide the epic inability to read, not simply to not do the job ."
The socialist MP considered it unacceptable for a minister to choose on his own whether or not to appear to face MPs' questions.
" A minister cannot determine whether he or another minister will conduct my interpellation with him. Neither can the plenary preparation office ," said Brace.
A few days earlier, on May 7, he had raised another alarm, denouncing that institutions under the Ministry of Agriculture were not responding to the Assembly's requests.
" I received two responses from them, one from the agency which says 'it is not my competence to respond' and one from the minister which says 'I do not want to interpellate you because I do not have the competence'. I understand that there are people in the government who do not want to do their job. I am here to do my job ", declared Brace.
But instead of giving an account to the elected deputies and at the same time to the citizens, the minister had a major commitment today. After one of his predecessors shone with the Shepherds' Academy, Salla introduced "Ylli", the virtual assistant for Albanian farmers created with Artificial Intelligence.
Although farmers protest daily, livestock keepers pour out their milk and complain that Lufra and Erzeni buy them for "5 pare", while others have their products blocked at customs. The minister, instead of giving an account, avoids questions and deals with "Albanian-style" inventions, just to divert attention from the real problems of the sector. /Pamphlet
