As the protests against the project in Zvërnec are entering their most intense days and taking on an increasingly broader political dimension, Prime Minister Edi Rama has chosen to respond in harsh tones to his critics and opponents.
From a meeting in Elbasan, the head of government attacked analyst and former ambassador Mustafa Nano, using language unusual for a sitting prime minister. Instead of dwelling on the arguments over the Zvërnec debate, Rama responded to the criticism with personal accusations, irony, and attacks on figures who have come out publicly against the project.
His statements come at a delicate political moment, when the protest that began to protect Zvërnec has transformed into a broader civic movement, with calls against the government, but also against old figures in Albanian politics.
During his speech, Rama recalled the period when Mustafa Nano was appointed ambassador to Switzerland, claiming that it was Nano himself who had requested the diplomatic post. The prime minister then attacked him for his criticisms regarding the influence of oligarchs in political decision-making.
The climax of the statement was the moment when Rama addressed Nano with the words: " But you, Muç, are a Sigurimi spy, how do you know who enters my office? ".
