The Democratic Party is expected to enter a selection process for candidates in the local elections, while the name of Ilir Alimehmeti is being mentioned as one of the alternatives for the Municipality of Tirana.
Eda Grimci, head of the DP branch in Unit 9, described Alimehmet as one of the potential names for this race.
"Ilir Alimehmeti is one of the excellent candidacies that the DP can come up with. This process, at least as far as I know, will go through the primaries. He is one of the candidacies, he is not the only one," she said to "A2 CNN".
According to Grimci, Alimehmeti has expressed his willingness to run, but stressed that there is still no official decision from the party.
"The Democratic Party does not have any official candidacies. Candidacies come to the top leadership forums, there is a committee that deals with announced or self-proclaimed candidacies," she added.
She emphasized that the selection process will come after the reorganization of the party's structures, while underlining the importance of a broad representative candidacy.
"Today, only one thing is being discussed: the best would be a unifying candidacy, which encompasses many interest groups, political and not only," Grimci declared.
