Actor Zija Grapshi passes away. He has passed away at the age of 94.
He was born in Gjirokastra and graduated from the "Jordan Misja" artistic high school (1952).
Initially, he was active in the philodrama group at "Radio Tirana" since 1949, then he played roles in comedy genres, especially at the State Variety Theater, several roles at the People's Theater, but he became most known as an actor at the Tirana Puppet Theater, where he worked the longest and where he made his greatest contribution.
He was a lecturer at the Higher Institute of Arts for several years. In the over 160 puppet theater performances in which he participated, he generally played leading roles, where he became beloved by children with the roles of Švejk (1957), Ivan the Great (1959), and especially with the figure of Santa Claus (1987).
His unique voice, with a characteristic timbre, his imitative skills, his care for being as natural as possible, and his sense of authenticity in his relationships with partners have been some of his most prominent interpretative qualities in creating characters.
Both in the Puppet Theater and the Variety Theater, he has performed roles with positive connotations, elderly people, wise and loving grandparents, advisory elders, clowns, etc.
Zija Grapshi has also starred in 7 films, in supporting and episodic roles, where she was also distinguished for her genuine acting and held the title of "Merited Artist".
