The suicide in suspicious circumstances of the communist Prime Minister Mehmet Shehu in December 1981, forced Enver Hoxha to stop all other commitments and put himself in charge of the situation to reveal the truth, which according to him was connected end to end with a dangerous agency activity. According to the memories of Haxhi Kroi, at least in the first days of January 1982, but not only, the headline of the agenda of the head of the regime was fixed only on one name "Mehmet Shehu", behind which a great betrayal was hidden.
In the diary of the personal secretary of the head of the Party, it is known how the cabinet of the most powerful man in Albania was proceeding to cope with the extraordinary situation.
Kroi, who has been following the dynamics of the event step by step, writes that Hoxha in this period was focused on two main directions.
First, in the deciphering of the letter that Shehu had written for him moments before he killed himself and in the discovery of the secret documents that the suicidal prime minister kept in his apartment in Bllok.
In the note dated January 5, 1982, the chief of staff of the Party leader writes that Enveri ordered him to read the traitor Shehu's letter three times a day.
"When I finished reading, he remembers, my friend Enver told me, "How mean I was! Jako calls two important friends, but Jako was himself. It seeks to divide the leadership, to create doubts among the comrades".
In the following days, according to the same document, Hoxha called one by one the members of the Political Bureau to his office and introduced them to the "evil" content of the letter and his first reflections on the hostile activity of the suicidal prime minister entitled "Mehmet Shehu, agent of the English", a manuscript of 182 pages, which would later take the full form of the famous "Synoptic..." Returning to the secret operation for the control of Mehmet Shehu's house, Haxhi Kroi, among other things, sees fit to report to the party leaders about the materials found in his house.

Të punoje në kabinetin e Hoxhës, nuk mjaftonte vetëm besnikëria. Stresi nga ngarkesa e jashtëzakonshme, bashkëjetonte njëherazi me intrigat e përplasjet e shpeshta, të cilat jo rrallë prodhonin viktima. Sado i kujdesshëm që është treguar Kroi në ditarin personal ndaj kësaj të vërtete, përsëri nuk ka mundur ta fshehë deri në fund. Mënyra si përshkruan debatet me Vahid Lamen dhe goditjen ndaj numrit dy të kabinetit të Hoxhës që ka punuar 13 vite në paradhomën e “Njëshit” të Partisë, zbulon haptazi mekanizmin djallëzor e të pabesë me të cilin operohej jo rrallë në zyrën më të rëndësishme të shtetit komunist.
I tunduar nga paraqitja dinjitoze e Lames dhe konsideratat pozitive të çiftit Hoxha për materialet e punuara prej tij, Kroi vë në lëvizje fantazinë e mbrapsht për të ndalur revanshin e juristit të njohur, ardhur në kabinet në fundin e viteve 60. Fillimisht vë në lëvizje njerëzit e “dorës” së tij duke u bërë thirrje të tregohen syçelët, se brenda radhëve të tyre ka njerëz si Lame që flasin pa doganë, madje edhe kundra politikës së Partisë. Ka mjaftuar kaq dhe vigjilentët e shefit të kabinetit kanë nisur të kujtojnë ato që kanë dëgjuar nga goja e tij. Haxhi Kroi pastaj ka bërë qëmtimin e fakteve dhe dëshmive, të cilat i ka renditur njëra pas tjetrës në bllokun e punës të sekretuar me siglën “Sekret”. “Vahidi i është shprehur Ksanthipi Dod. (sekretare në kabinetin e Hoxhës-shënim i red.)se Ramiz Alia, nuk ka burrëri dhe shpesh ua hedh me dinakëri fajin të tjerëve.”
“Në bisedë me Pandi Did. (instruktor në KQ-shënim i red.) Lama ka thënë se ministri i shëndetësisë është gomar, ndërkohë që edhe ai që e ka vënë është i tillë”. “Vahidi i ka deklaruar Jeta Mitru. (senografiste e Hoxhës-shënim i red.) se shoku Enver nuk është zgjedhur sekretar i përgjithshëm në mbledhjen themeluese të Partisë më 8 nëntor”...
Në kujtimet e tij Kroi shkruan se me këtë “lëndë” të bollshme, në tetor të vitit 1981, komunistët e organizatës bazë të Partisë kanë kryqëzuar Vahid Lamen, duke e përjashtuar nga radhët e Partisë si element të rrezikshëm me prirje armiqësore.

The latter's diary reveals yet another interesting fact: Vahid Lama was tried and convicted only with the testimony of Hoxha's cabinet officials, instructed and encouraged by the cabinet chief! In the note dated February 4, 1982, Kroi, while talking about the contacts with the heads of the investigation who were following the case, writes "Today I called my friend Jeta Mitrushi, an employee of the KQ apparatus, who will be questioned about what she has declared about the enemy Vahid Lama . I also talked about this with my friend Ramiz, who was aware and told me to order Jeta to be careful and denounce the things he knows about Vahid. I talked with Jeta, gave him a warm welcome and communicated his order..." Such conversations, as documented by Kroi's diary, were also held with other vigilantes, who transferred the same accusations from the Party organization to the hall of the trial. The trial has finally proceeded: Lame anti-party element, agent, sworn enemy of the Party and Comrade Enver! Here, Hoxha's chief of staff finally settles accounts with his former subordinate, who "the Party had taken from nowhere and entrusted him with the important door in Comrade Enver's office".
