From June to December 1974, Enver Hoxha led a feverish campaign to discover and eliminate the hostile group in the army.
The chronology of events started at the meeting of the Political Bureau in July, where the head of the regime announced for the first time the unheard of accusations against Beqir Balluku, then Minister of Defense, for sabotaging the Party's line in the army.
From July to December, Hoxha has called several times the high forums of the Party, to finalize the battle with the "traitor generals", according to a well-thought-out scheme that provided for their partial annihilation.
The first was Beqir Balluku, who was crucified at the 5th Plenum of the KQ in the summer of that year, being dismissed from all state and party functions. A few months later, in October 1974, the Politburo, in response to the appeal of the head of the regime, proceeded with the punishment of his associates, two other generals, Petrit Dume and Hito Çako, who were declared as guilty as the minister fired for sabotaging the Defense Council Theses that provided for the security strategy and countermeasures in the event of military aggression from abroad.
The plenum of December 15 and 16, 1974, finally settled the accounts with the "coup generals" and "traitors", transferring the accusation to the justice bodies, which without the slightest difficulty "legislated" Hoxha's claim to pass them before the firing squad.
In Haxhi Kroi's diary, this story is telegraphed, in the form of simple chronicles with the dates of the meetings and the relevant topics, without going into the content of the issues examined. Surprisingly, Enver Hoxha's secretary does not mention anything about the multitude of speeches and analyzes that the latter has made during this time for the discovery and annihilation of the so-called coup group.
The only aspect that draws attention in the memoirs of Enver's personal secretary is a note dated September 3, 1974, which talks about an unknown speech by Hoxha about "traitor generals". Writing about him, the dictator's discreet man reveals that the main leader, having just returned from vacation, called his close circle of aides to his office and gave them the drafts of a material, which he evaluated a extraordinary importance. There are some ideas about the hostile activity of Beqir Balluku, Hoxha explained to the members of the KQ, they are not complete, but fill them in, organize your thoughts and avoid repetitions so that it comes out clear and concise.

Një porosi të tillë, sipas sekretarit personal, pak çaste më vonë ia ka dhënë edhe Nexhmije Hoxha. Kroi nuk sqaron se si u procedua më tej dhe ku e konsumoi shefi i Partisë këtë fjalim sekret, por lë të kuptojë se mbi bazën e tij është ngritur thelbi i akuzës për dënimin kapital të dy gjeneralëve madhor.
Në ngjarjet e tjera që përmend shefi i kabinetit të kreut të regjimit nga kjo periudhë, vëndin kryesor e zë letërkëmbimi i Hoxhës me njerëzit e thjeshtë. Ndër to, zgjon interes ajo e 15 vjeçares, Elida Skënderi, vajzës së shkrimtarit Vehbi Skënderi, të përjashtuar rishtas nga Partia. Në letrën e saj me ankesën për qëndrime jo të drejta të autoriteteve zyrtare, Enveri ka shënuar me dorën e tij “Prap ky Vehbiu u përjashtua nga Partia? Ai është implikuar me elementë antiparti. Si qëndron kjo akuzë që kundërshton vajza e tij 15 vjeçe?”.
Një përgjigje kjo që e ka ngazëllyer tej mase Kroin, për “kujtesën e mrekullueshme, të freskët dhe rinore të shokut Enver”, e cila në optikën e tij mbetet “një pasuri kolosale për Partinë dhe popullin, për marksizëm-leninizmin që po e pasuron për ditë e më shumë në kushtet e Shqipërisë”

Ka qenë viti 1974, kur për herë të parë Enver Hoxha, ka mësuar se shtëpinë e Avni Rustemit në Libohovë e kanë shkatërruar. Haxhi Kroi, shefi i kabinetit të kreut të regjimit dhe një nga nipërit e “Heroit të Popullit” që bëri bujë me atentatin kundër Esat Pashës në Paris në vitin e largët 1924, duke iu kthyer kësaj ngjarje, në shënimet e datës 22 prill 1974, shkruan: U ktheva nga festimet me rastin e 50 vjetorit të vrasjes së Avni Rustemit dhe i tregova shokut Enver për aktivitetet e kryera në Libohovë. Kur ra fjala dhe mori vesh se shtëpia e Avniut ishte djegur gjatë luftës, sepse në të qëlloi të banonte nipi i tij që qe bërë eksponent i Ballit Kombëtar, tradhtari Qazim Rustemi, (daja i Kroit ky-shënim i red.) shokut Enver i erdhi shumë keq që nuk u ndodh një njeri ta shpëtonte këtë objekt me rëndësi të jashtëzakonshme. Përkundër këtij fakti të panjohur nga kreu i regjimit, që kalon me dy tri fjali, në pjesën tjetër të kujtimeve nga ky përvjetor, sekretari i Hoxhës nuk rresht të sjellë mbresat nga takimet e gostitë me zyrtarët lokal, të cilët, siç pohon, nuk e kanë lënë për asnjë moment të pushojë i qetë.
Sakaq, the official who has headed the dictator's cabinet for 40 consecutive years, referring to the developments of the April-May 1974 period, claims that this was the time when Hoxha was a guest in his office at the KQ. Even on the rare occasions that he appeared there, according to his personal secretary, he stayed no more than two hours. Health problems after the heart attack and bad weather with storms and even snow like never before, writes Kroi, force Comrade Enver to lead the Party mostly from home.
In these conditions, the leader is placed not only under the special care of his friend Nexhmije, notes Kroi, but also of other leaders of the Central Committee, who do their best to lighten his load.
