"Iran is dying for peace," Trump reveals details of talks between

US President Donald Trump declared that Iran is "dying to calm down," while providing details on the progress of indirect talks between Washington and Tehran, held in Doha, Qatar.

During a speech, Trump said that the US administration had temporarily suspended negotiations due to funeral ceremonies in Iran.

"Iran is dying to calm down. We gave them a week off for a funeral because we're being polite," Trump declared.

Earlier this week, US and Iranian representatives held indirect talks in Doha on the conflict in the region. The negotiations were suspended ahead of the funeral ceremonies of former Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Meanwhile, Qatar's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Majed al-Ansari, said the meetings have produced encouraging signals.

"Indirect meetings between American and Iranian negotiators have made positive progress," al-Ansari declared.

He added that the next round of negotiations will take place "as soon as possible" after the end of the funeral ceremonies in Iran.

US Vice President JD Vance also expressed optimism about the process, but stressed that it is still too early to draw conclusions.  "The talks are going well, although it is still very early," Vance said.

Meanwhile, diplomatic developments in the Middle East continue on other fronts. Last week, Lebanon and Israel signed a US-brokered agreement, but the clashes have not stopped. Just two days after the agreement, Israel approved the continuation of military operations in southern Lebanon.

Also, Syria's Foreign Minister made his first official visit to Beirut this week, where he met with Lebanese leaders, at a time when the Trump administration has mentioned the possibility of greater Syrian engagement in Lebanon.
