The Central State Film Archive (CSFFA) and the Polytechnic University of Tirana (UPT) signed a cooperation protocol and announced the launch of an important project for the rescue and preservation of film materials from the UPT fund, which will come to light for the first time.
This collaboration aims at emergency intervention for the archiving and conservation of a vast collection that includes:
* 35 mm and 16 mm films,
* thousands of historical photographs,
which constitute an extraordinary asset for the history of cinema and Albanian visual memory.
The materials, stored over the years in not always suitable technical conditions, are currently at risk of degradation, requiring immediate intervention to avoid their irreversible loss.
The meeting organized to launch this cooperation was attended by:
* Akli Fundo, Rector of the Polytechnic University of Tirana
* Eljan Tanini, Director of the Central State Film Archive
* Prof. Gjergji Islami, Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning (FAU)
* Technical staff of the Film Archive
This Protocol aims to establish a framework of cooperation between the AQSHF and the UPT for the preservation, digitization, promotion and exchange of film, photographic, historical and cultural materials related to the Polytechnic University of Tirana and educational and research films made by the photography and film laboratory of the Polytechnic University of Tirana.
The Parties undertake to cooperate in:
•Identifying and preserving audiovisual materials available to UPT.
•Creating and maintaining the UPT fund at AQSHF.
•Digitizing film materials of common interest.
•Exchanging professional knowledge in the field of archival science and processing of archival materials.
•Exchange of materials and services, according to the needs that institutions may have.
•Joint promotion of scientific, historical documentaries and archival films with scholarly and educational themes.
•Organizing joint scientific, educational, artistic, and cultural activities.
This inter-institutional partnership marks an important first step towards creating a sustainable platform for the preservation and promotion of the national film heritage, considering it not only as a memory, but as living testimony to our history.
