The surrounding wall of the lower city of Amantia, which is thought to have been built in the 3rd century BC and destroyed in the 6th century AD, was discovered during excavations at the Amantia Archaeological Park in Vlora.
This powerful fortification sheds light on the urban and public organization of the Illyrian city, adding a new chapter to the history of this ancient center, authorities say.
In addition to this discovery, necessary restoration interventions were also carried out to protect the monumental tombs, as well as other conservation works on the monuments identified in recent years, which were affected by climatic agents, such as frost, rain, etc.
New archaeological discoveries, such as the surrounding wall of the lower city of Amantia and other elements of urban organization, along with restoration interventions in monumental tombs and other identified monuments, are continuously enriching the archaeological landscape of the Park.
These excavations and restorations not only bring new facts to the study of the life of the Illyrian city, but also guarantee their preservation and presentation for today's visitors and future generations.
Amantia, the ruins of the ancient city, a cultural monument located in the Vlora district, Albania. Its name was first mentioned in the 4th century BC. Amantia was founded at the end of the 5th century BC. It is located on a hill in the Labëria area and is fortified with walls. In the 3rd century BC, the city strengthened economically and issued its first coins. In 268 BC, the city minted its own coinage. There are still traces of the temple of Aphrodite, the theater and the stadium.
