The person who executed businessman Edmond Mëhalla on the evening of November 30 in the "Emin Matraxhiu" neighborhood in Elbasan is suspected of being a foreign citizen.
Euronews Albania sources close to the investigative group say that this suspicion arose after analyzing the data and evidence administered up to this stage of the investigation.
Although material evidence, extensive information, and video footage have been seized, the perpetrator has not yet been identified, while investigative leads remain open.
Another development in this event is the arrest of Nevzat Spaho, suspected of being an accomplice in the murder of the businessman.
The 29-year-old, originally from Prrenjas, has a criminal record and has been previously convicted of attempted murder, illegal possession of a weapon, coercion through intimidation and theft.
Sources from the investigation told Euronews Albania that during questioning, Spaho denied having any knowledge of the person who carried out the assassination, but stated that the vehicle used in the murder was handed over to several people from Lezha by the victim's former partner, Xhino Aga.
Aga has been arrested along with the guard at the gas station where the execution took place, while Marcelo Arani and Armando Kola, suspected co-authors of last Sunday's incident, are still being sought. / EuronewsAlbania
