The Korça Court has released Dritson Kurti, whose case caused a lot of fuss, from his cell. He was arrested last year after giving birth to a baby with his minor cohabitant. He was charged with "sexual intercourse with a minor", while today the Korça Court issued a decision, which sentenced him to probation.
Initially, the prosecution requested that Kurti be found guilty, requesting 7 years in prison, which, upon application of the summary trial, would be reduced to 4.8 years. It was the prosecution that asked the court to suspend the execution of the prison sentence and place Kurti on probation for a period of 5 years.
Kurti's lawyer, Enea Cenko, stated that his client is not satisfied with this decision, as according to him he should have been declared innocent.
" Today was a decision for Dritson Kurti. The Korça court has already approved the request of the prosecution that was expressed for article 59 of the Criminal Code. The Korça court has already sentenced him to a sentence of 5 years of probation. It should be emphasized that this does not satisfy us because I continue to declare that Dritson Kurti is innocent. I want to reiterate this fact because we should not be satisfied with article 59, because a good part of this honorable community in Albania, who work, love culture and are good people, it should be emphasized that these people get married from the cradle because fathers are related to each other and marry their children when they are young. This is their culture, we must respect them for this, in any case it was a good procedural moment for Dritson to join the family, to stay with his minor daughter where he has not yet enjoyed it. It should be emphasized that this is a case that was not made with a report from his cohabitant, but it is a report filed "mainly. We, as the defense, also requested that Article 59 of the Criminal Procedure Code be applied ," he said.
The court accepted the Prosecution's request, assigning Kurti probation for 5 years.
