As part of measures to prevent illegal border crossing, the Saranda Border Police have arrested a 24-year-old resident of Shkodra, who was transporting illegal immigrants for a fee on the "Saranda-Lukovë" road.
The vehicle used for the transport was seized, while the investigations also include the identification of other persons involved in this scheme. The materials have been referred to the Prosecutor's Office for further action.
"Lukovë, Saranda/ The Border Police cracked down on a case of providing assistance for illegal border crossing. A 24-year-old man who was transporting illegal immigrants for a fee was arrested. As part of the increased measures to prevent and crack down on cases of providing assistance for illegal border crossing, the services of the Saranda Border Police Commissariat, during checks on the "Saranda-Lukovë" road axis, found a "Volkswagen" type vehicle in the place called "Lemi i Sofisë", in which several foreign citizens were being transported.
The Border Police Services immediately intervened and arrested the driver of the vehicle, citizen MO, 24 years old, resident of Shkodra, in flagrante delicto. Investigations suspect that citizen MO was transporting immigrants, for payment, in the vehicle he had rented, with the aim of having them illegally cross into the European Union countries.
The vehicle was seized as material evidence, while investigations continue to identify other citizens involved in this case. The procedural materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Saranda, for further action, for the criminal offense of "Aid for illegal border crossing ", he said.
