The Court of Appeal of Perugia overturns the first instance decision of "house arrest" and returns to prison the Albanian who was arrested with about 25 kg of cocaine, 55 thousand euros in cash and a 'Beretta' pistol.
The accused is Antik Ferko, 36, who must now return to prison on charges of drug trafficking and illegal possession of weapons. The Court of Appeal accepted the Prosecution's appeal, stating that the house arrest measure given by the first instance was too lenient for such an arrest.
The Albanian had expressed remorse in his statement after his arrest, while his lawyer was able to convince the court to grant a mitigation measure.
But now the Court of Review of Perugia has upheld the appeal filed by the Spoleto Public Prosecutor's Office.
Antik Ferko was caught with 24.7 kilograms of cocaine hidden in his homes in Spello and Foligno, as he was initially spotted driving a Renault Scenic by Guardia di Finanza officers, who found eight blocks of cocaine in the false bottom of his car.
Ten others were hiding in the two houses. The raid also led to the discovery of a large sum of money (55,000 euros) and a Beretta 6.35 pistol. The preliminary investigation judge of the Spoleto Court, after evaluating the arrest, ordered house arrest for the 36-year-old, who had made "spontaneous confessional statements".
The operation was carried out in the second week of June by the GdF. The drugs were hidden in fake skirts in the car, in the house in Spello and in the house of the arrested person's parents, in Foligno. The packages of drugs were stamped with the secret code "458", which is suspected to indicate the financier and recipient of the goods.
