The Special Court has upheld the security measure of "prison arrest" for Marsel Liçaj, suspected of being part of a structured criminal group involved in heroin trafficking to Denmark.
Meanwhile, Judge Rudina Palloj confirmed the "compulsory appearance" measure for Ermal Liçaj. Both are accused of "Production and sale of narcotics" within a structured criminal group, as well as "Commitment of criminal offenses by a criminal organization."
According to SPAK, the investigations are related to the criminal proceeding codenamed "Operation Bacchus", registered by Danish authorities in August 2023. The focus of the investigation was a network of Albanians and foreign citizens who were trafficking heroin to Denmark.
Investigations revealed that the criminal activity took place from October 2023 to January 2024, in at least seven different episodes. The heroin was transported to Denmark via Sweden and then mixed with paracetamol and caffeine to be marketed, with the aim of increasing profits.
So far, Danish authorities have identified and prosecuted three people, including two Albanians and one foreign national, while two other citizens involved in the criminal scheme have also been identified in Albania.
SPAK emphasizes that the operation was conducted in close cooperation with the Danish authorities and the National Bureau of Investigation, within the framework of the codenamed "Bacchus" operation.
