Three Albanians have been arrested by Italian police, accused of trafficking weapons from Albania to Italy.
The joint operation of the Guardia di Finanza of Monfalcone and the Economic and Financial Police Unit of Trieste led to the seizure of a significant quantity of automatic weapons.
During a routine check at the Slovenian border crossing of Sant'Andrea, officers stopped a van with Albanian license plates carrying seven people: five passengers and two drivers. The two drivers showed signs of nervousness, impatience, and frequent exchange of glances, which immediately raised suspicions among the police.
During baggage check, there was a heavy suitcase which was carefully inspected.
Three Kalashnikov AK-47 automatic weapons were found inside, professionally concealed. Further checks of the vehicle revealed two other automatic weapons as well as five magazines with a total of 356 rounds.
