A 16-year-old Albanian boy was seriously injured after a knife attack that occurred on Saturday evening in Vicenza, in an area near the historic center of the city.
The young man was stabbed in the chest and is currently hospitalized in the pediatric intensive care unit of a local hospital. Although in serious condition, his life is not in danger, health authorities say.
According to preliminary information from law enforcement, the suspected perpetrator is another young man, possibly the same age as the victim.
The motives for the incident remain unclear, but one of the leads being investigated is an attempted robbery that ended in violence. Investigators, however, do not rule out other reasons behind the attack.
Bystanders in the area raised the alarm, while the Suem 118 Emergency Service ambulance immediately arrived at the scene and provided first aid to the injured man before transporting him to the hospital.
La Repubblica writes that the incident took place on Via Cattaneo, a populated and very frequented area due to the presence of a large public parking lot. The police are working to identify the perpetrator and it is expected that the statements of the injured teenager, once his condition improves, will help in fully clarifying the incident.
