An Albanian couple who had just left their job at a bakery in Thessaloniki and were returning to their apartment were hit by a truck on the road. A 47-year-old man and his wife were seriously injured.
The serious incident occurred at 06:00 this morning on the Thessaloniki-Kavala axis, near the place known as "Titan", and the two injured people suffered multiple wounds and fractures, and were taken to hospital for treatment.
The police are searching for the truck driver. The serious incident occurred shortly after the victims' vehicle had stopped due to a defect. And just as they were about to turn into the lane, they were hit by a truck, whose driver fled the scene.
"As soon as they got into the car, it seemed that it had a mechanical problem and so they stopped on the Egnatia side road ," informs "Protothema".
Both are currently at Papageorgiou Hospital.
The driver of the car is described by doctors as a multiple trauma patient with injuries to his pelvis and leg. According to information, he is undergoing surgery with the possibility of further interventions, but his life is not in danger.
His wife is also being treated at the same hospital, but her health condition is unknown.
Speaking to Protothema, the 47-year-old's brother-in-law said the couple had just finished work and were leaving for home at the time. However, they discovered that the car had broken down and so they went out to see what had happened.
In addition, he emphasizes that the police must find the driver of the truck that dragged them and left them helpless on the asphalt. According to information, the Greek Police are collecting witness statements and have "scanned" the area for security cameras that may have recorded the heavy vehicle and its license plate.
