
Belgian police have dismantled an Albanian criminal organization accused of drug cultivation and trafficking. Eighteen house searches across Belgium resulted in fifteen arrests.
The organization used intermediaries to arrange vehicles and cell phone numbers, thus keeping the leaders invisible.
Illegals guarded the plantations, while forged documents provided additional camouflage. Police teams searched buildings in Kortrijk, Menen, Harelbeke, Waregem, Wervik, Mouscron, Asse, Machelen, Antwerp, Ronse, Ledeberg, Verviers, Engis and Brussels.
Three apartments in Ghent, Harelbeke and Verviers fell into the hands of the police. In total, more than 3,200 marijuana plants and cuttings were found. Two locations in Menen and Kortrijk appeared to be under construction. Forensic experts analyzed all traces, where 4.8 kilograms of marijuana, three cars, prohibited weapons and cash were analyzed. Bank accounts and cryptocurrencies were frozen.
14 men and one woman (aged 27-53) ended up in prison. Among them were ten Albanians, three Belgians, one Congolese and one Romanian. They were arrested for drug trafficking and criminal group. One of them, a wanted Italian, is awaiting extradition.
The council chamber announced eight arrests. Three suspects were released on bail. The public prosecutor's office appealed against a bail. West Flanders detectives will continue to lead the investigation.
