This data shows that the socialists, even though they got tired of working for pensioners, have managed to think only of themselves.
In Albania during 2026, the average old-age pension is at around 20,666 lek per month in cities and 12,107 lek per month for rural areas.
The salary of a deputy in the Albanian Parliament is 310,250 lek per month, while in addition to the basic salary, deputies also benefit from other allowances such as: food allowances, fuel expenses, telephone bills and payments to clients in parliamentary committees.
But taking into account only the basic salary (without other benefits) of Albanian MPs, the ratio of the MP's salary to the average pension in the city is 15 times higher, and even with the average pension in the countryside, 25 times higher.
This is a ratio where we have surpassed even Europe. The ratio of the average salary of members of national parliaments or the European Parliament to the average state pension of a European citizen is approximately 7 to 10 times higher.
With pensions 15 to 25 times lower than the salary of Socialist MPs, their electorate must bear prices that, according to Eurostat, are 103.8% of the average prices in Europe, they must pay 60% of health expenses out of pocket, they must pay for telephone, transportation and a 700-to-1000 lek daily fee to enter a public beach.
This data shows that the socialists, even though they got tired of working for pensioners, have managed to think only of themselves.
They do not worry or talk about inequality and are far from leftist policies that are based on redistribution.
Worse, through their behavior, attitudes, and statements, leftist elites believe that they deserve a privileged place in society, and that the poor are such because of their incompetence, not because of a lack of equal opportunities.
So today every citizen has the right to say: "If you want to do the right thing with pensions, don't do what the socialists would do."
