But chances are it won't always be like this, even though the old political class is trying hard to keep up with the excitement of its followers. They are fewer and fewer, and they are seeing the tragic appearances of the old comedians...
An event held today in one of the halls of the Academy of Sciences was a ceremony honoring a well-known character, but who is of course not viral.
The Academy hall was full, and many of the attendees even stood in the corridor to watch the event, which was not at all short or entertaining, lasting a full 2 hours. It was about the honoring of Elmaz Lala with the title of "Honorary Citizen of Dibra".
An intellectual, who is known as the man who strengthened and modernized education in the area, namely from the 80s-90s of the last century, and then, with the fall of communism, he was the chairman of the Socialist Party of Dibra. At the event, most of the participants were of course over 50 years old, but there were also young people. There were academics, there were intellectuals, well-known artists, and of course normal people, not very well-known.
Coming to such a meeting, on a rainy day, weekend, where a large part came from far away, is nothing more than a magnetic influence that has attracted the person who had invited them. This is called a horizontal influence, where people in the community create their connection and communication without direct clientelistic interests or similar to them. Today, on a rainy Saturday, and with Tirana blocked in traffic, no party in Albania, even the largest, fills the hall with such a tumult as happened today for human respect for Elmaz Lala.
This entire community, which was pluralistic and not polarized, nevertheless leaned towards a leftist representation. Former MPs, former mayors, former important leaders in the territory, who have not been part of direct political life for years.
This popularity of such characters, who have made significant contributions to the communities they have led and the fields in which they have excelled, is considered a real, organic influence, untainted by the momentary or tribal interests of the problems that life brings.
Because it is based on real and measurable facts, as was the case in this case, Elmaz, who in his two parts of the "peak" of activity has left his mark. In the increase in the modernization of education in the territory, the rapprochement of intellectuals in direction and management, which brought real results in a very populated area like Dibra. Which began to compete with high results with other areas of the country, which had a long history of excellence. Then, when he took over the leadership of the SP from the old labor ruins, Lala politically re-established the opposition, which in Dibra of the bandits of the "professors" of SHIK and the army had been terrorized, into a governing party. Winning only 4 months from March 22, 1992 the municipality of Peshkopia with a real political referendum, with over 50% of preferences. This did not come by chance, but because he called in the direction of intellectuals and well-known figures of the area, who brought a new and calm spirit. A spirit that was immediately accepted by the community. This influence shown today, it must be said, comes when the person in question has never had executive power, that is, to have "done clientelist honors". Namely, he has not been either a deputy or a mayor or a minister.
Meanwhile, in Albanian politics today, we do not have politicians with direct power in the territory, but influencers who fight just like the girls in showbiz, for vertical popularity. Namely for likes, shares or as many "K"s as possible on social networks.
Our politics has become almost a one-man show for years. Where senior politicians are nothing more than stand-up comedians who want to entertain their people. Edi Rama and Sali Berisha are really two very successful stand-up comedians among their people. who are used to the usual jokes and follow them relentlessly, as happens with famous comedians on world television, who have the same audience every weekend, which has as an unbroken ration the filling with permanent jokes.
But the bad thing is that this logic has also been copied by politicians of the second level and below. Gazment Bardhi, for example, is a politician who has shown that his influence has progressively declined in the territory, but he linearly increases the dose of personal protagonism on Thursday when the parliament is in session. Mr. Koreshi also does not continue to bring the most colorful notes from the humor of the musketeers and so on. This is worth saying about the opposition, since it does not have the power to install its influence in the territory. As does the majority, which has an easier time filling the halls on Saturday with rain. It is enough to take the phones of the employees from the respective directorates. Even the political leaders of the regions, these traveling first secretaries, the increase they have secured in the elections, have done so only by working for a quota of voters. After all, the base and the essence of the electorate are those people who went today to honor Elmaz Lala.
But chances are it won't always be like this, even though the old political class is trying hard to keep up with the excitement of their followers. They are fewer and fewer, and they are seeing the old comedians' performances as tragic.
