This is Erion, a Chinese student who is learning Albanian at Peking University from several Chinese teachers named Moza, Shqiponja, Bora, and Erina.
Erion asked me what the message of my novel Otello the Arab of Vlorës was, which he had read twice in Albanian and in his own language, which his wonderful teacher Moza had just translated.
I told him that the message of this novel is dedicated to impossible love and is located in the last sentence on the last page.
Erion read the last sentence like this: Daculia dies, the jinn and the pankop.
I told him to read it again. Erioni made some corrections to the word love, but he read the word die again with mistakes.
I told him to read it a third time. Erion read it: Love always dies unsatisfied.
This is the message of the novel Otello, the Arab of Vlorë.
The other Chinese students applauded, especially the girls named Luna and Jehona.
This was just part of two lectures I gave to Chinese students learning Albanian at Beijing Foreign Studies University.
