Albanians "abandon" the country for vacations, over 6.5 million trips

From the beginning of the year until the end of September, there were over 6.5 million departures of Albanians who preferred to spend their holidays abroad. Of course, most of them more than once. Data from the Institute of Statistics shows that compared to January-September 2024, departures from the country for holidays have expanded by 9.4 percent.

"There is an increasingly visible tendency for Albanians to spend their holidays abroad. The reason is cheaper packages and 'all-inclusive' services," tour operator Elvis Kukeli told A2 CNN.

"Unlike some of the tourists who enter the country, we who live here feel the price increases, so we often go abroad because it's convenient for us," said tour operator Ferjold Ozuni.

So where did Albanians spend their holidays this summer?

"The most popular destinations this summer have been Turkey and Greece, especially the coastal areas where Albanians find package deals with flights, hotels and meals included. There has also been increased interest in Montenegro and Italy, while for longer trips, Dubai and Egypt have been chosen. Basically, Albanians are looking for convenience and affordable prices, which they often find more abroad than within the country,"  Kukeli revealed.

Every Albanian who spent their holidays abroad at the beginning of the year spent an average of 297 euros. Compared to a year ago, expenses have increased by 15 euros. This is also due to the increase in package prices.

" The price increase is also reflected in tourist packages. If last year a vacation abroad could be found at a lower cost, this year on average Albanians have spent more - about 15 euros more per person. However, compared to prices within the country, many of them still find it more profitable to travel abroad, where the service is more complete and guaranteed ," said tour operator Jetmira Hoxha.

Data from INSTAT show that between January and September, over 10.2 million foreigners entered the country, about 3.7 million more than Albanians who left./ A2CNN
