Bitcoin's Rise and Fall, Geopolitical Tensions 'Hit' Digital

Bitcoin fell more than 5% on Tuesday, falling below $63,000, according to market data reported by international financial media outlets such as CNBC and Bloomberg. The decline comes after the asset reached a record high of around $126,000 in October last year.

Bitcoin has lost about 27% of its value since the beginning of the year, down nearly 50% from its October peak. Analysts attribute this development to a broader investor retreat from riskier assets at a time when markets are facing heightened economic and geopolitical uncertainty.

Christopher Hamilton, head of client investment solutions for Asia-Pacific (outside Japan) at Invesco, told CNBC that the recent move “looks less like a cryptocurrency-specific shock and more like classic risk-off.” He said the decline reflects a “tactical risk deregulation” and not necessarily a long-term departure from the cryptocurrency market.

Global investors have become increasingly cautious amid trade tensions and expectations of tighter monetary policy, according to analyses published by Reuters and the Financial Times. Rising tariffs and uncertainty over interest rates have weighed on technology stocks and digital assets, which often move in the same direction.

On the geopolitical front, statements by US President Donald Trump that he could take a decision on military action against Iran within days have added to uncertainty in international markets. Washington has increased its military presence in the Middle East, while tensions in the region remain high.

Analysts point out that cryptocurrencies, although operating outside the traditional banking system, react sensitively to the global risk climate. In times of uncertainty, investors tend to shift capital towards assets they consider safer, such as government bonds or the US dollar.

Recent developments confirm that the cryptocurrency market remains exposed to macroeconomic and geopolitical factors, just like other segments of the international financial system.
