Tomorrow, on July 1, 2025, the bilateral agreement between Albania and Italy on social security enters into force, which guarantees the mutual recognition and protection of rights for citizens who have contributed to the systems of both countries.
The Social Security Institute (ISSH) has published the technical guide to the implementation of the agreement, a document that clarifies the procedures, criteria and documentation required for the benefit of pensions and other rights. The guide will be an important tool for Albanian and Italian citizens, simplifying the application process.
The agreement, signed in Rome on 6 February 2024, was finalized during the visit of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to Tirana in May 2024, where the document was handed over to Prime Minister Edi Rama during the European Political Community summit. This step marks an important advancement in the protection of the rights of citizens of both countries, strengthening cooperation between Albania and Italy.
