The price of oil in international markets has exceeded $100 per barrel, while in the Albanian market a liter of oil is being sold for around 193 lek.
After a sharp increase in midweek, when the price at gas stations reached 210 lek per liter, a decrease has been recorded in recent days. Currently, most points of sale offer diesel for around 193 lek per liter.
However, compared to the period before the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, fuel in the country remains more expensive. The price per liter is about 20 lek higher than before.
On the stock market, crude oil has seen a rapid increase in the space of a few days. From around $87 per barrel in midweek, the price has risen above $100 per barrel.
Authorities have set up a task force to monitor the market and avoid price abuses at gas stations.
If tensions in the region continue and oil prices rise further, this could also affect other sectors of the economy. The increase in fuel prices is usually reflected in the cost of transportation, electricity and the prices of basic consumer products.
