The Transparency Board changes fuel prices again, reducing oil prices by 3 lek

The Transparency Board has published today the new decision on fuel prices in the domestic market, which will enter into force on May 15, 2026, from 1:00 p.m.

According to the decision, the maximum retail price for diesel is set at 198 lek per liter, while the wholesale price should not be higher than 186 lek per liter.

Meanwhile, for gasoline, the maximum retail price has been set at 185 lek per liter, while the wholesale price is set at 173 lek per liter.

The Board announces that these prices will remain in effect until the next meeting, where new market changes will be reflected.

The Transparency Board on May 15, 2026, at its next meeting, decided:

The retail price of the gasoil by-product of the SSH EN 590 standard shall be no more than 198 lek/liter, while the wholesale price shall be no more than 186 lek/liter.

The retail price of the SSH EN standard gasoline by-product should be no more than 185 lek/liter, while the wholesale price should be no more than 173 lek/liter.

The prices set by the Board will come into effect today, the 15th, at 1:00 p.m. and will be valid until the next board meeting where the changes in sales prices will be reflected.

We draw the attention of every operator of wholesale and retail sales of petroleum by-products to the obligation to implement this decision.

In case of violations found by various operators, the suspension of activity will be decided.

The Ministry of Economy and Innovation, together with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, are committed to protecting the interests of Albanian consumers and preserving the principles of fair competition in the market.

EXPLANATION: Referring to Normative Act No. 1, Date 3.4.2026 “On an addition to Law No. 61/2012, “On excise duties in the Republic of Albania,” as amended, which provides that if the retail price for diesel is higher than 220 lek/liter, or for gasoline is higher than 200 lek/liter, the 80% excise duty level shall be applied. Based on the application of the methodology for calculating the retail price ceiling, the prices are below the limit of Normative Act No. 1, date 3.4.2026, and consequently the excise duty level shall be applied in full, 100%.
