Prime Minister Edi Rama, in a statement that goes beyond any framework of diplomatic communication, said publicly in Rome: “Italy can ask for anything and we will always say yes.” This sentence, delivered against the backdrop of an agreement to relocate migrants from Italy to Albania, is not simply rhetorical hyperbole. It represents a dangerous and irresponsible positioning for a country that aspires to be a member of the European Union.
The agreement to establish two centers for processing asylum applications of migrants on Albanian territory, financed and administered by Italy, has begun to be referred to as a “new model” for managing migration. In fact, it represents an experimental model where human rights, host country sovereignty, and political transparency are suspended.
Rama did not state any conditions for Albania in this agreement. He did not mention the standards that will be implemented in these centers. He did not guarantee respect for international conventions on the rights of migrants. He made no reference to the Albanian public opinion, which was never asked about this agreement.
Instead of a measured stance based on reciprocity, Rama embraced the role of a humble vassal in the face of Rome. At a time when Giorgia Meloni's government itself is facing harsh criticism in Italy for its failure to manage migration, Albania is offered as an experiment for a policy that does not work on Italian soil and there is no guarantee that it will work on Albanian territory.
This agreement is not European integration. It is instrumentalization. It places Albania in the position of a country willing to take on the burden that EU countries do not want to bear on their own. It does so without gaining anything except a symbolic diplomatic embrace and perhaps some technical funds that do not compensate for any of the political, social and image costs that this agreement will entail.

Në një kohë normale,me njerëz normalë kjo deklaratë e Edi Ramës do të ishte përmbyllëse për karrierën politike të tij ,madje jo vetëm për karrierën.. Do përfundonte në burg në rastin më të mirë!
Si Rama nuk ka pasur Shqiperija. Dikur ja merrnim ne goje Italianve per nje vize, sot ulesh ne tavoline si i barabarte. Ndonje fature do paguhet per tavolinen por s‘besoj qe ne humbim. Me mire Italia apo Grek e Turq. Vete e pame cbeme, Enveri na mbylli ne kotec e kur dolem spo shihnim as drite.
