Edi Rama's statement that "Albania is like honey to China" has caused irritation in Washington; the US embassy in Tirana has reacted with three strong public messages, hitting the government on media freedom, strategic investors and the fight against drug trafficking.

We will persistently pursue President Trump's priorities in Albania, strengthening institutions that combat organized crime and narcotics trafficking such as SPAK, BKH, and the Security Academy ."
She also added: " Criminal networks, including Albanian groups collaborating with Latin American cartels mentioned by Secretary Rubio, pose significant threats to Albania's security and economic progress through activities such as drug trafficking and money laundering.
